We work in a flexible hybrid model, with regular in-office collaboration at our downtown
Toronto (Spadina) office, balanced with remote work flexibility. This role provides the
chance to work closely with leadership while enjoying the independence to manage
your own projects.
Key Responsibilities
As a Mechanical Engineer at Fitec, you will play a central role in the design, delivery,
and execution of innovative biogas projects. Your responsibilities will include:
- Lead project management for technical execution, ensuring equipment,
suppliers, and schedules align. - Design and validate fluid systems, including pump sizing, pressure drop
calculations, and throughput alignment for slurries and substrates. - Apply hydronics expertise in heating systems and heat exchangers, including
heat loss and heat balance calculations. - Develop plant layouts and technical drawings in CAD, and provide
mentorship to junior engineers on CAD best practices. - Interpret and update P&IDs, integrating instrumentation and basic controls into
process designs. - Prepare capital cost estimates and proposals, including equipment lists,
project budgets, and client-facing technical documentation. - Mentor junior engineers, providing guidance, oversight, and opportunities for
professional growth. - Interface with clients and contractors, leading technical discussions,
supporting conflict resolution, and ensuring project success. - Maintain accurate documentation and records, supporting contract
compliance and payment processes. - Represent Fitec at trade shows, industry events, and in client presentations,
reinforcing our reputation as a trusted partner in renewable energy.
Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline with strong
mechanical experience). - 5+ years of relevant experience in fluid systems, pumps, piping, or process
equipment; background in renewable energy, agriculture, anaerobic digestion,
wastewater, or solid waste/manure management is an asset. - Proven ability to size pumps, calculate pressure drops, and design fluid
handling systems for slurries and substrates. - Strong proficiency in CAD software; ability to mentor junior staff in CAD best
practices. - Familiarity with P&IDs (piping & instrumentation diagrams) and process
instrumentation; ability to read and apply them effectively (bonus if experienced
in development). - Project management skills, with experience overseeing multi-million-dollar
engineering projects, budgets, and proposals. - Strong client-facing and contractor-facing communication skills, with proven
ability to handle conflict resolution in a professional manner. - Excellent documentation, organizational, and proposal-writing skills,
ensuring clarity, compliance, and accuracy in project delivery. - Demonstrated leadership abilities, with the capacity to mentor and guide junior
engineers within a growing team. - Experience with hydronics and heating systems (heat exchangers, hot water
loops, heat balances, and heat loss calculations).
Compensation - Base Salary: $90,000 – $110,000 annually, depending on experience
- Performance Bonus: $30,000 – $50,000 annually
- On-Target Earnings (OTE): Approximately $140,000
