About Lighthouse Demo

Headquartered in Toronto, Ontario, Lighthouse Demo (lighthousehiring.ca) is a technology-driven organization committed to delivering reliable, high-performance software solutions. Our platforms process vast amounts of critical data every single day, enabling seamless operations and insights for the users who rely on us. We believe in building resilient infrastructure and fostering a collaborative, remote-first culture across Canada. As we continue to scale our data operations, we are looking for dedicated professionals who share our passion for operational excellence and system stability.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Batch Operator to join our remote IT Operations team. In this full-time role, you will be the guardian of our automated processes, ensuring that essential data pipelines, reporting modules, and system backups execute flawlessly within their designated operational windows. You will not simply be monitoring a dashboard; you will actively investigate anomalies, resolve complex job failures, and work closely with our engineering teams to optimize batch workflows. If you possess a keen eye for detail, a strong foundation in enterprise job scheduling, and a drive to minimize system downtime, this role offers the opportunity to be a crucial pillar in our daily technical operations.

What You'll Do

  • Monitor Enterprise Schedules: Oversee the daily execution of critical automated batch processing across multiple environments using enterprise scheduling software.
  • Troubleshoot and Resolve: Proactively identify job failures (abends), runtime delays, or dependency blocks. Execute first- and second-level troubleshooting to resolve issues and restart failed processes according to established protocols.
  • Optimize Batch Windows: Analyze job runtimes and resource consumption to identify system bottlenecks, working directly with technical teams to streamline workflows and reduce overall processing time.
  • Maintain Documentation: Create, review, and update comprehensive runbooks, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and escalation matrices to ensure the operations team has accurate, up-to-date troubleshooting resources.
  • Incident Management: Act as the primary point of contact for batch-related operational incidents. Open, update, and manage tickets in our IT Service Management (ITSM) system, ensuring timely communication with all stakeholders.
  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner with Data Engineering, DevOps, and Application Development teams to deploy new batch jobs, test schedule changes, and provide feedback on job stability.
  • Ensure SLA Compliance: Guarantee that critical data deliverables and system processes meet strict Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for internal and external business partners.
  • Operational Coverage: Support a remote, distributed operational model which may include participating in rotating on-call support for business-critical weekend or after-hours processing.

What You'll Bring

  • Experience: 3+ years of hands-on experience in IT Operations, Data Center Operations, or a dedicated Batch Processing role.
  • Scheduling Expertise: Proven proficiency with enterprise job scheduling tools (e.g., Control-M, AutoSys, Tidal, ActiveBatch, or similar platforms).
  • Technical Aptitude: Solid understanding of operating systems (Linux/Unix and Windows) and the ability to comfortably navigate file systems and analyze system logs.
  • Scripting Fundamentals: Ability to read and execute basic administrative scripts (Bash, Python, or PowerShell) to aid in troubleshooting and task automation.
  • Ticketing Systems: Experience using IT service management tools like Jira Service Management, ServiceNow, or Zendesk for tracking and resolving incidents.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent analytical abilities with a methodical approach to identifying root causes under pressure.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical issues to both technical and non-technical stakeholders across a remote environment.

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with cloud-based batch processing services (such as AWS Batch, Azure Batch, or Google Cloud Scheduler).
  • Experience working in a compliant or highly regulated data environment (e.g., handling PII or financial data).
  • ITIL Foundation certification or a strong understanding of ITIL methodologies for incident and change management.
  • Bilingual proficiency (English and French) is considered a strong asset.
