About the Role
We are seeking a strategic, operationally-minded Vice President of Finance to lead our financial operations and guide our long-term fiscal strategy. Based in Toronto, this role will serve as a critical partner to the CEO and the broader executive team. You will not only oversee the day-to-day accounting and controllership functions, but you will also own Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A), treasury, and board-level reporting.
The ideal candidate is a proactive leader who thrives in a growing environment, possesses a strong command of SaaS or technology business models, and can seamlessly translate complex financial data into clear, actionable business strategies.
What You'll Do
- Lead and Scale the Finance Team: Hire, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance and accounting team capable of supporting the company's ambitious growth objectives.
- Drive Strategic Planning (FP&A): Own the annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning processes, partnering with department heads to align financial goals with operational initiatives.
- Oversee Controllership and Accounting: Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes in compliance with recognized Canadian accounting standards (ASPE/IFRS).
- Advise Executive Leadership: Act as a strategic sounding board for the CEO and leadership team, providing data-driven insights on pricing strategy, resource allocation, and go-to-market investments.
- Manage Board and Stakeholder Reporting: Prepare and present comprehensive financial packages, KPIs, and strategic recommendations to the Board of Directors and investors.
- Optimize Cash Management: Oversee treasury functions, working capital management, and cash flow forecasting to ensure optimal liquidity.
- Enhance Financial Systems: Evaluate, implement, and continuously improve financial software, ERP systems, and internal reporting tools to drive automation and efficiency.
- Ensure Compliance and Risk Management: Maintain rigorous internal controls, oversee corporate tax compliance, and manage relationships with external auditors, financial institutions, and legal counsel.
What You'll Bring
- Experience: 10+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, with at least 3+ years operating at a senior leadership level (Director or VP).
- Credentials: A professional accounting designation (CPA) in good standing is required.
- Industry Knowledge: Demonstrated experience leading finance within a growing technology, software, or SaaS environment.
- Technical Expertise: Deep proficiency in financial modeling, advanced FP&A methodologies, and corporate accounting.
- Communication Skills: Exceptional ability to distill complex financial concepts into compelling narratives for non-financial stakeholders and board members.
- Leadership: A proven track record of building compassionate, high-performing teams and fostering a culture of accountability and excellence.
Nice to Have
- Previous experience navigating significant corporate financial events, such as venture capital fundraising, M&A due diligence, or international expansion.
- Familiarity with modern corporate finance tech stacks (e.g., NetSuite, Workday, advanced BI platforms).
- A strong understanding of the HR-tech or recruiting technology landscape.
