ECE Education Consultant (1-Year, Full-Time)

Join a great team and do meaningful work!

Learning Bird supports First Nations, Métis, and Inuit schools and Nations in building curricula, custom courses, and digital resources. Learning Bird is a 100% remote company with contributors located across Canada.

Role Summary

You will be an Early Childhood Education (ECE) education consultant who reviews, guides, and supports the development of community-based curricula in accordance with provincial or community standards. This includes reviewing learning objectives, monthly and weekly plans, play-based, developmentally appropriate daily activities, and instructional materials, as well as guiding the developers who create them. You will bring pedagogical expertise, digital fluency, and data-informed assessment to help learning experiences achieve strong outcomes.

You will travel with Learning Bird colleagues to communities to engage educators, Elders, and Knowledge Keepers, gather materials, and help define the curriculum framework. You will then oversee a collaborative, iterative writing process with the Learning Bird team, educators, administrators, and community members to keep the curriculum culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and usable. You will also contribute to ongoing process improvement during and after projects.

A core part of the role will be conducting pedagogical reviews of ECE curricula and resources developed by other curriculum developers and instructional designers. These reviews ensure the work is developmentally appropriate, pedagogically sound, and a good cultural and contextual fit for the community. It is important to offer clear, constructive feedback for the creators. You will also be a go-to resource for the team on early years pedagogy.

From time to time, the role will include hands-on ECE instructional design, such as creating resources and learning tools to support community-based curricula. Where appropriate, you will work with language speakers to help embed authentic vocabulary, oral language opportunities, and language-rich routines into daily classroom practice, strengthening early language acquisition and revitalization efforts.

You will also develop and deliver professional development workshops for ECE educators, often in person in partner communities. These typically focus on bringing community needs, Indigenous ways of knowing, and early childhood best practices into the classroom.

When ECE curriculum projects are limited, you will be assigned other curriculum or content creation projects working with education authorities, principals, educators, Elders, and other community stakeholders to create engaging, culturally relevant, curriculum-aligned materials.

Personality Profile

The job requires you to demonstrate collaboration, adaptability, creativity, and self-motivation. Based on your expertise, you may also occasionally be expected to serve as a dynamic thought partner and innovative leader.

You may be asked to serve as a liaison between teams and community partners, helping others get up to speed on early childhood concepts even when they have only a general understanding of them. You must be a versatile communicator who builds respectful relationships with educators, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and colleagues alike.
