About Fortress Accounting
Fortress Accounting handles accounting, tax, and fractional CFO work for more than 400 companies, most of them founder-led. Our clients include crypto and Web3, SaaS, AI, fintech, and money transmitters, along with e-commerce, healthtech, property management, and professional services firms.
Our team of 17+ works remotely across ten countries. We are building out our tax practice to serve these businesses and the founders, principals, and family offices behind them.
The Culture: High Standards, Real Autonomy
Think Jensen Huang's Nvidia: not toxic grind culture, but genuine high performance. We expect a lot because we hire people who are capable of a lot. In return, you get:
- Actual ownership of your work and your clients
- No micromanagement. We hire adults and treat them like adults.
- Remote flexibility. Work from anywhere, but show up ready to work.
- Direct access to leadership. We're a small team, and your voice matters.
- Clients who are building interesting things, not legacy corporations stuck in 1995
Work-life balance? Yes. But let's be honest: if you want a job where you coast and clock out mentally at 4:59, this isn't it. We work hard. We take our clients seriously. And we expect you to care about doing excellent work.
About the Role
This is a senior generalist seat. You will be the lead preparer and reviewer on complex returns for corporations, partnerships, trusts, estates, and individuals. Much of the work is classic high-net-worth compliance: K-1 stacks, real estate, trusts, and planning. The rest is work you won't see at a traditional firm. You will own client relationships directly, with no layers between you and leadership.
The Work
The core
- Prepare and review Forms 1040, 1041, 1065, 1120, 1120-S, 706, and 709
- Real estate: bonus depreciation, cost segregation studies, §1031 exchanges, and §453 installment sales
- Trusts and estates, complex partnership allocations, and PE/VC fund investments
- Founder and employee equity: §1202 QSBS, §83(b) elections, ISO and NSO exercises, and AMT planning
- Tax projections, estimated payments, and year-round planning for high-net-worth clients
- Respond to and resolve IRS and state notices
Where our client base takes you
Most of our clients are crypto, fintech, SaaS, and AI companies, and the founders who run them. That brings in work most firms send elsewhere, and you will own it here:
- Digital assets: cost basis across wallets and exchanges, Form 1099-DA, staking income, and token compensation
- International: Forms 5471, 8865, 8858, 8938, and FBAR filings, GILTI and Subpart F, entities in the BVI, Cayman, and Cyprus, and Puerto Rico Act 60 clients
- Tech company issues: §174 R&D capitalization and §41 credits, and multi-state nexus for remote-first teams
Leadership and growth
- Review, mentor, and supervise preparers
- Join scoping calls with prospective clients and help scope tax engagements
